Pokemon

(for adults)

Now I'm not saying that this will make you a Pokemon master overnight, this is just a simple explanation of the show, so that possibly, you can understand what your kids are talking about.

Pokemon originated in Japan. It was originally a comic book that eventually evolved into the T.V. show that we see today. Pokemon in Japanese means "pocket-monsters" which comes from Ash (the main character) holding all his Pokemon in a Pokeball. We'll get back to that later.

Pokemon came over to America a few years ago, and it was an immediate hit. I'm no psychologist, so I can't explain why, but it became a hit with the original Pokemon game boy games Red and Blue. The kids loved it, so WB (Warner Brothers Entertainment) an 4 Kids Entertainment started to translate, and re-do the episodes in English, so they could start premiering it on T.V. This was also a hit, so the translated the first movie, Pokemon: The First Movie. They are also working on Pokemon: The Movie 2000 for debut in July. I have the trailer in the Video Downloads Section.

Now, down to the explanation. The characters of the show are as follows:

Ash Ketchum: He's the main character. The show is based on his destiny to become a "Pokemon Master"
Misty: She's the main girl of the show. In the first episode of Pokemon, Ash wrecked her bike. She now follows him in hopes that he will repay her for the bike.
Brock: The first gym leader Ash battles. It's a long story of how Ash met him. Brock's father left him with all his brothers and sisters, so Brock had to single handidly take care of them. In the episode with Brock, Brock's father returns, and Brock goes of to be the world's best Pokemon breeder with Ash.
Jesse: A member of the infamous Team Rocket. The team always fails, but they keep going.
James: The other member of Team Rocket.
Meowth: A Pokemon that is in Team Rocket. He's the only Pokemon that can actually talk.

That's most of the main characters. I'm working on getting a Bio section that will more cleanly explain about them.

Now, on to the Pokemon themselves. The Pokedex Page is not up yet, because I'm re-doing all of the pages. But, if you want to visit there anyways, hey, I ain't your papa?

Ash, himself owns six Pokemon. Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Butterfree, Pidgeotto, and, what's that other one? Oh yeah, Pikachu. :-)

Pikachu is the most famous one. I don't know why though. I myself like Charizard.

Ash holds all his Pokemon in small devices called Pokeballs. These hold the Pokemon in what looks like an energy state, but for any of you who don't know what that means, don't fret about it. The Pokeballs shrink whenever the Pokemon is inside of it, and dilates whenever the trainer wants to get the Pokemon out of the ball. This, for me is one of the hardest things to explain. But, if you can't understand it either, ask your kid. He/She probably knows.

This is all that I'm going to bother with for now. But stay tuned, I'll be putting more in soon. Like I said, this is just a simple explanation.

I know that the show has progressed on, but I don't keep track of them anymore. Where I live, I have to get up at 6:30 in the morning on Saturday to see it, and I don't think so.

I will, however try to update this page soon.
